The purpose of this assignment is twofold. One: so you learn how to obtain credible and correct information about disease and disability from the correct sources and synthesize that information in an understandable form. The second purpose is to express your thoughts in a professional, non-personal manner. Please refrain from using personal stories about friends and family who have suffered from a condition.
Writing style: You are to use American Psychological Association [APA] writing style within your paper. Manuals are available at most bookstores and the library. A good online source for this is the OWL Purdue Writing Lab (https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/purdue_owl.html (Links to an external site.)).
Helpful hints for writing papers:
Do not use contractions.
Do write your paper in the third person. (not first “I” – and not second “you”).
Do proofread your document.
Do cite all facts written.
Do NOT submit your paper without citations.
Do not plagiarize (copying text from another source and putting “quotation marks” on it does not qualify for your own work).
Do number your pages.
Remember that this is a 400 level course, therefore the work you submit should reflect upper-class college writing. If you are unsure about how to go about starting your document, please speak to me. You are also encouraged to visit the writing center at the library and discuss your project with them. They will assist you with formatting your paper, guiding you through the writing portion, and work with you to assure your document is acceptable.
