Cohen V. California Supreme Court Case

Paper Requirements:
• This paper will be the common written assignment for all POLI 111 US Govt. classes.
• Students will pick a US Supreme Court ruling on one of the following topics: Federalism, First Amendment, Voting Rights.
• It will be approximately 5 pages in length (excluding cover page and work cited page), Arial, Font 12, double spaced, 1” margins.
Structure of assignment:
1. Problems/causes that led to the case. What are the facts; issue/controversy; and case history?
2. The Constitutional question raised by the participants in the case. What were the relevant precedents?
3. The Supreme Court’s majority decision and any dissenting opinion.
4. Student Reflection on the significance and impact of the case and on which side do they think presented the stronger argument? Why?
Grading:
• The attached rubric will be used to grade your paper
• This assignment will be worth a 60 point project grade
• This is 15% of final grade
• Paper is due at the end of the semester, to be turned in via the DROPBOX, under COURSE RESOURCES on blackboard
