Please explain the contradictory characteristic of the period (the mid-19th to the mid-20th century), using the experiences of above countries Japan, (also Russia, and Germany if you like) as examples and taking into account of factors (A)-(D).

Humanity has made huge societal and economic progress but a seed of destruction, fully materialized in the first half of the 20th century in the form of two World Wars, was also sown in this period. Following factors (A)-(D) might account for this contradictory characteristic of the period:
(A) Progress in Political System which reflect increasingly voices of people rather than voices of Imperial Households in policy making. (Bright Side): This made a mobilization of the entire population for the purpose of achieving the national objectives much easier. (Dark Side): If people were motivated by Nationalism in policy decisions, a political system based on people’s voices was prone to cause international conflicts.
(B) Progress in Transport System—Railroad. (Bright Side): this made societal and economic integration of whole nation much easier. (first step). It also made globalized commerce and division of labor possible (second step). (Dark Side): It was a main factor through which World War came into being.
(C) Development in International Finance: (Bright Side): The Industrial Revolution centered around the core European countries and the USA could spread around the globe greatly helped by this factor. The global community was integrated into tight economic networks. (Dark Side): This was another main factor through which World Wars came into being.
(D) Establishment of the Gold Standard Regime (GSR). (Bright Side): the GSR made the global integration of financial system possible; it has greatly promoted international lending. It also fostered the cooperation between governments and central banks. (Dark Side): Too much trust in GSR created, at times, international overinvestments and asset bubbles. When the market sentiment turned negative, inviting a major market crush, GSR became a major obstacle to overcome economic recession.
Remember that my narrative was centered on the Japanese experiences since the second half of the 19th century. I have discussed, however, the experiences of Russia and Germany, to some extent.
(Question) Please explain the contradictory characteristic of the period (the mid-19th to the mid-20th century), using the experiences of above countries Japan, (also Russia, and Germany if you like) as examples and taking into account of factors (A)-(D). In other words, please explain how the combinations of (A)-(D) have produced adverse outcomes, War or major social destabilization, for the country (countries) in question.
