You have already established a relatively new business.
Your business is based in one of the following sectors: paper and packaging, utilities, or
government and public sector.
In your group presentation, you have discussed the acquisition and deployment of your app
and business information systems (BIS) to help the business grow.
You now need to write an individual briefing document for your chosen company to highlight
the key issues regarding your organisation and green computing.
Discuss the characteristics and global significance of green computing.
Evaluate the organisational opportunities and challenges posed by green computing.
Explain and analyse how you will address the green computing requirements relevant to the
app, BIS solution(s) and business strategy you have already chosen. Including:
a) Overview of your business, the app, the BIS solution(s) and performance objectives.
b) Proposals to address reduction in environmental impacts of computing resources.
c) Proposals to address reuse of computing resources.
d) Proposals to address recycling of computing resources.
e) Explanation of your business strategy and analysis of how application of the above
proposals will contribute to the business strategy in terms of improved social,
economic & environmental impacts.
Explain the theory used to justify the choices made for your proposed business information
solution(s) and how this theory was applied.
Use correct academic writing style and structure. Use correct grammar, syntax, punctuation
and spelling. Use in-text citations and references according to the Harvard Reference
Issues to consider regarding green computing:
Reduce: minimise e-waste by reducing purchases of new electronic devices and
Reuse: extend the life of hardware by redeployment of existing items to new owners
instead of recycling.
Recycle: disposal of equipment in environmentally friendly and legal ways.

Explore social development initiatives and opportunities in your analysis and

Explore available legal frameworks and regulations (e.g. WEEE) in your analysis and
application of the recycle principle.
Task 4: Lectures, tutorials and the VLE materials curate and present a range of
relevant theory to support your BIS development (e.g. value chain, virtual value chain,
IPOS model, generic strategy, five forces analysis, system theory, three levels of
strategy and data-information-knowledge model). Please select from the theory
covered in class and make sure you both explain the theory and show how you
applied it to your recommendations.
