ASIAN AMERICAN CULTURAL INTERVIEW PAPER
In place of the course you will complete a TWO PART out of class assignment.You will
listen to recordings of cultural interviews and write a paper on your analysis of these
interviews.
CULTURAL INTERVIEW (50 pts possible)
PART I INTERVIEW ASSIGNMENT PREP
A. Complete the Survey questionnaire on the groups you would be interested in studying for this
project.
B. Review the Group Assignment list to find the group you have been assigned to.
C. Listen to the interviews that have been recorded for that group.
D. As you listen to the interviews write down timestamps and quotes that you found interesting
or insightful, that assisted you in learning more about that community.

    PART III – INTERVIEW WRITE-UP
    In 2,000 to 5,000 words, write a paper that does the following:
  2. Summarizes the key learnings and observations you made for the areas listed above (Ethnic
    Identity, Family Structure, Mental Health/Illness, Interethnic relations).
  3. Discusses how concepts you learned in the course can be understood more clearly in your
    interview observations. ( Concepts of social categorization, social comparison, in group
    favoritism, outgroup denigration, and outgroup homogeneity and how these lead to changes in
    prejudice, discrimination, and self-esteem. Psychology of anorexia, Drug Use and Identity,
    Psychiatry article Prescribing medications for Asian Americans.)
  4. Uses one of the ethnic identity models to describe the interviewees ethnic identity.
  5. Provides a thoughtful reflection of how you have gained or learned from the stories that were
    shared
