Remembering an event

Description: Create a narrative centered on your educational experience. Rather than telling a story of your entire educational career, you will focus on one specific event that directly influenced your decision to go to college.
When choosing an event, focus on a small period of time. You are welcome to include additional context, but the focus of this project needs to be limited to a relatively short period of time. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box (e.g., parents and teachers).
Just because you are writing about your motivations for going to college does not mean you have to write about a person or event specifically tied to education. However, you do need to make it clear why you chose the event or person in relation to your educational experience over the course of your narrative.
Purpose: At the end of this paper, your audience should have a clear idea of why you are in college and how this particular event or person led you to being here. From a rhetorical stand point, you need to focus on the type of emotion you elicit from your audience. Is your goal to be funny? If so, is it funny to anyone other than you? Is it to be emotional? If so, does it ever become sentimental? Keep these types questions in mind when you consider your audience.
Audience: Your audience for this assignment is your fellow classmates. With this being your first assignment and being fairly early on in the semester, think about what that means for your narrative. With maybe a few exceptions, your audience does not know a great deal about you outside of class. While this assignment is in part designed to help you understand why your are enrolled in Dual Enrollment courses, it is also designed to help your fellow classmates understand why you are here.
Grading Criteria: Strong narratives tell a story, have a clear point, and convey a dominant image that sticks with the audience. You will be graded on your ability to fulfill those requirements while effectively establishing a clear theme and mood. Your ability to pay close attention to your language and style will also heavily influence your grade for this assignment.
Clarity and organization are essential to telling an effective narrative.
Additional Requirements:
• 750-1000 words
• Times New Roman 12 point font
