A 1500-word account of a case study taken from the student’s own practice area preferably an (ORTHOPEADIC WARD) that highlights the professional aspects of practice in one of the following areas:
 Professionalism
 Duty of Candour
 Equality and human rights
 Consent to treatment
 Protecting the vulnerable adult / Safeguarding children
 Confidentiality (PREFERED TOPIC)

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

  1. An essay introduction will often contain these elements:
    General Orientation
     General statements (especially on the importance of the topic)
     Background information
     Reference to recent developments / previous work (specialist literature)
    Focus on your paper
     Content: aims / (main point or idea)
     Structure
  2. Give a brief description of the events from your practice area which focus on one of these areas:
     Professionalism
     Duty of Candour
     Equality and human rights
     Consent to treatment
     Protecting the vulnerable adult / Safeguarding children
     Confidentiality
  3. Using the literature consider the following:
    Evaluation.
     What was good about the event?
     What was bad?
     What was easy?
     What was difficult?
     What went well?
     What did you do well?
     What did others do well?
     Did you expect a different outcome? If so, why?
     What went wrong, or not as expected? Why?
     How did you contribute?
    Analysis
     What can you apply to this situation from your previous knowledge, studies or research?
     What recent evidence is in the literature surrounding this situation, if any?
     Which theories or bodies of knowledge are relevant to the situation – and in what ways?
     What broader issues arise from this event?
     What sense can you make of the situation?
     What was really going on?
     Were other people’s experiences similar or different in important ways?
     What is the impact of different perspectives eg. personal / patients / colleagues’ perspectives?
  4. Action Plan
     How will you use this experience to further improve your practice in the future?
  5. Conclusion
     Restate the main point or idea by making the same point with other words (paraphrase).
     Review your supporting ideas.
     For that, summarize all arguments by paraphrasing how you proved the thesis.
     Connect back to the essay hook and relate your closing statement to the opening one.
     Combine all the above to improved and expanded conclusion.
  6. Academic skills:
    You must ensure the work reflects level five expectations as described in the University grade criteria (see Assignment Rubric). A range of contemporary and/or seminal references with accurate use of faculty system of referencing. Clear logical structure, academic presentation, accurate grammar, and spelling, adheres to Faculty policy on word count, plagiarism, and confidentiality
