REQUIRED TEXTBOOK: Ferris, K., & Stein, J. (2020).The real world: An introduction to sociology(7th ed.)
The professor wants me to choose the final topic and submit it first. Can you do me a favor first? please? If you
can’t do it so it’s fine. This is the details of this mini-project ( it separate from “the annotated bibliography” I
ordered below):
- For full credit (10 points) you must (1) answer the questions (2) include at least one quote from your textbook
and (3) make reference to a major concept from the chapter and (4) ask a question to which your classmates will
respond. Posts should be a minimum of 250 words.
By now, you should have watched the instructional video on the final project – an annotated bibliography – and
reviewed the supplemental material. For our discussion this week, please decide on and tell the class the topic
you will be researching. Answer the following information.
What is your topic?
How did you focus your interest in one sociological area to a more narrow topic?
Why did you choose this topic?
If you were to conduct original research, what would your research question be?
* I have attached all the details for “an annotated bibliography” in the “.doc” file below. My professor
doesn’t require the number of pages. If you have any questions feels free to email me This assignment is
important to me cause my midterm grade is low.
SOCIOLOGY 101BIBLIOGRAPHY ASSIGNMENT:
**** The purpose of this assignment is to learn how to do scholarly research in the area of sociology. For
additional instruction see http://quincycollege.libguides.com/soc101
From the following list of topics, choose one topic and assemble a bibliography of 5-7 annotated citations.
Topics to choose from: Sociology of Religion (10) ● Sociology Of Education (10) ●Sociology of Work (11) ●
Sociology of Family (12) ● Sociology of Health and Medicine (14) ● Urban Sociology (15) ● Demography ●
Environmental Sociology (15)Narrow down your topic: Make your topic more specific by choosing a subtopic
from the chapter.
Narrow down your topic: Make your topic more specific by choosing a subtopic from the chapter. For example,
from chapter 13 on the Sociology of the Family, you could choose to research divorce trends in the US (p. 434).
Use “How”, “What”, “Where”, “Why”, and “When” questions to further narrow your topic.Choosing good
sources: You must use “scholarly” sources. A good way to tell if your source is scholarly is to look at the name
of the publishing house. Scholarly publishing houses are usually associated with a university (e.g. Indiana

University Press, Yale University Press). A scholarly journal is ‘peer-reviewed’ and typically has a number of
footnotes at the end of each separate article. It may also have the word “journal” in its title. When in doubt, ask
the librarian or a classmate. Avoid sources that are only found on web sites, such as CQ Researcher. Avoid
Wikipedia and other wiki sites on-line. Avoid popular magazines like Newsweek or Time. Annotate your
bibliography. List each source and provide 5-6 sentences that paraphrase the main point of each book or article.
Try to explain what makes this source different from all others on your list. What is the question the researchers
asked? What method did they use to do their research? What data did they discover? What were their findings or
conclusions? Make each entry in your bibliography stand out so that you can recall what was special about that
source. You must use your own words for this. Do not copy straight from the back of a book or any portion of
the text of the book.
