State and local government

POL 309 Milestone Three Guidelines and Rubric
Comparative Analysis II
Overview: In your previous milestone, you began a comparative analysis of your state and two others of your choosing, as well as a comparative analysis of how
your selected policy’s outcomes were influenced by various factors within each state. In this milestone, you will continue your comparative analysis, focusing on
state-level political structures and political climates.
Prompt: For Milestone Three, you will continue to develop pieces of your comparative analysis for your final project through the use of both scholarly articles
and government documents. Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:
I. Comparative Analysis, State: What are the two states that you will be evaluating? How are these states similar to or different from your home state,
making them a useful comparison for study? In other words, how does each state (your two chosen states and your home state) compare and contrast to
the others relative to the following:
A. Structure of state legislatures
B. Gubernatorial (governor) powers
II. Comparative Analysis, Policy: Compare each policy outcome within each state. In other words, how did the outcome of addressing the policy issue yield
differences in results relative to variations in the following:
A. Structure of state legislatures and partisan balance
B. Gubernatorial (governor) powers
