Substance Abuse in Adolescents living in Bridgeport, CT

The guidelines are below:

     Students will meet and interview a minimum of two stakeholders within the population of choice ( a telephone interview is acceptable but not one done over the internet via email: One interview will be with a community or public health nurse.  The second interviewee will be with a stakeholder in regards to the chosen Healthy People 2020 issue chosen.  The stakeholder may be a community member of the designated population of choice, a public health worker assigned to designated population or a local politician of the designated area even a person with the condition chosen.  The interview will take place at an area chosen by the student and interviewee.   Questions will be asked by the student regarding the Healthy People 2020 issue chosen by the student.  There is no time frame in how long the interview is to be, or the number of questions.  Students should be able to obtain an understanding of the view of this stakeholder and his/her role within the community along with their view on the issue chosen by the student for the community.   The interview will then be written up by the student and submitted to the clinical instructor at the designated time it is due.  Paper should be a minimum of 5 pages, no more than 10.  Written in APA format.  

Some basic questions to ask but are not limited to just these are:

  • What is role the role of the stakeholder in the designated community?
  • What is their view on the issue chosen and the designated population?
  • What are some of the challenges noted by the stakeholder in relation to the designated issue chosen?
  • What services does the stakeholder see as needed for this population in relation to:
    • Primary prevention
    • Secondary prevention
    • Tertiary prevention
  • What are some suggestions by the stakeholder in promoting a change in the community in relation to chosen issue? 
  • Does the stakeholder have suggestions for interventions needed at the local, state, or national levels?

Grading Rubric for Interview

•        The following rubric will be used for grading the interview paper

•        Five points will be taken off for each day it is submitted late.

•        The paper is worth 100 points and 20% of the total grade for the course.
