Special Education Laws

  1. Answer the following questions:
    Explain ways (teacher referred, parent referred, etc.) students can be placed in special education and the process that requires.
    Explain the IEP process and the steps that must be taken (include when meet, who meets, how contact family, when re-evaluated, etc.).
    Anything you should know about standardized testing?
    How are behavior problems handled differently (or are they) than regular education students?
    Do they use inclusion? Pull-out? Combination?
    Any other special laws that schools must follow when dealing with special education students?
    Explain how RTI (response to intervention) is used.
    Anything else they want to add or any other questions you want to ask?
  2. Then discuss special education laws and the importance of understanding and implementing these laws.
